Our Mission
We are called…
- To welcome all people to worship the triune God with us.
- To give of our time, talent and treasures in mission to strengthen our relationship with Christ.
- To grow in faith by studying, discerning and teaching God’s Word for our daily lives and for the life of the church.
We’re part of PC(USA)
As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), we believe that our salvation is assured through faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, God calls us for service to others. We are led to promote and practice a life that nourishes all peoples and life on the planet God has entrusted to our care. In governance, we stress representational active leadership of both ministers and church members, who serve as elders and deacons.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A has approximately 2.3 million members, more than 10,000 congregations and 14,000 ordained and active ministers. Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. Our heritage, and much of what we believe, began with John Calvin (1509-1564), whose writings crystallized much of the Reformed thinking that came before him.To learn more about the Presbyterian Church USA, read What We Believe from the PC(USA) website.
We welcome all God’s diverse people.
We’re a warm, friendly congregation focused on bearing witness to God’s love through community service, outreach and mission. We gather in worship and in fellowship to grow in Christ and study God’s word. We invite you to come–and to explore our website. Get to know us.
Interested in Joining First Pres?
Joining is simple at First Pres.
To join, you attend a new members’ class, led by our pastor, where you’ll learn about our congregation, our beliefs and traditions, and our leadership and programs. These classes are small groups, so there’s plenty of time for discussion and questions.
Please call the church office (248-474-6170), email our administrative assistant at [email protected], or use our Contact Us form to find out when the next new member orientation will take place. These meetings are for anyone interested in joining First Presbyterian Church or want to learn more about the Presbyterian faith.
