Where do high hopes meet high adventure? At our senior high youth group.
Our senior highs get together frequently, usually on Sundays right after church. They have fun together while sharing their faith and friendship with each other, and they make a difference by helping others in our church family, in our community and on summer mission trips.
Some weeks their activities are devoted to building up their faith. Other weeks they get involved in a local service organization or tackle a service project at the church. There are many social events as well, providing an opportunity to relax and enjoy being together. We share many a common meal, experiencing the hospitality that springs from our faith. All of our activities are full of FUN.
Each season, the youth find time to go on a weekend retreat and a lock-in at the church. These typically provide opportunities to serve others and relax together, with time for more in-depth exploration of faith.
In between the many activities, they work throughout each school year to raise funds for youth mission projects including one-week summer mission trips. These trips are very meaningful; travel, devotions, companionship and hard work come together to make a difference in the lives of the people they help and in the lives of the teens themselves.
Mission trip destinations are varied and include urban, rural and international locations, frequently with emphasis on supporting a specific ethnic group. We have an on-going relationship with a ministry on the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico and have sent youth there in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012. It’s exciting for our alumni to see the progress made over the years, as the local Mayan people grow their ministry with our assistance.
